Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Defining Wellness Centers
Dedication to Clinical Excellence
Our clinical treatment team assesses each client and makes a recommendation for an appropriate level of care based on their specific needs. For those transitioning from an inpatient residential treatment program, PHP provides stability and structure as clients navigate the early days of their recovery outside of a controlled environment. Some individuals may not have met criteria for inpatient residential services, but need more comprehensive programming than IOP or outpatient services provides, and may be a fit for a partial hospitalization program.Defining Wellness Centers’ partial hospitalization program is six hours each day, five days per week. This provides 30 clinical hours weekly, comprised of a mix of individual sessions and group therapy sessions. When attending PHP, clients live at home or in a structured sober living home and arrive at our outpatient facility each day for their program. Our clinical team is dedicated to providing a supportive environment to best aid each client in their wellness journey.
During PHP, clients focus almost exclusively on the treatment program. Partial hospitalization programs are time-intensive for a reason – to help each client build a solid foundation for their recovery so that as they transition into lower levels of care, they can maintain sobriety and overall health. Investing in one’s own recovery is the most important thing that a client or their loved ones can do. Addiction is a disease that it takes time to fight, and each client deserves the chance to empower themselves to achieve successful, long-term sobriety.
Clinical Assessments
Upon admission to our PHP program, each client is individually assessed via a biopsychosocial assessment, and a treatment plan is developed collaboratively between the client and treatment team. The recovery journey is mapped out is one the client will traverse, and as such, they’re encouraged to take a level of ownership in their own treatment planning process. Working together we identify strengths, weaknesses and treatment goals, outlining measurable objectives so that clients can easily see the progress they make.We utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities to serve our clients and meet their needs.
The following therapeutic interventions are available in our Partial Hospitalization Program:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Psychotherapy
- Psychodrama
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Stages of Change
- Motivational Interview (MI)
- Wellness Lab
- Medication Management
Individualized Care
Throughout our partial hospitalization program clients participate in both group and individual sessions. This is extremely important as both are an integral element of the treatment process. Group therapies occur daily and show clients that while their situations are specific to themselves, addiction is something that impacts many. Meeting people who have been through similar experiences and can share insights and provide feedback sends a strong message that no one is alone in their recovery. Support is found from the licensed clinicians who provide treatment services and from peers in treatment and support group settings. Groups also provide the opportunity to practice communication skills, regulate emotions when necessary, and roleplay difficult scenarios and conversations to build healthy coping skills for the future.Individual therapy sessions are an important part of PHP. When diagnosed with a substance use disorder there’s often an associated stigma, as well as feelings of shame and despair. Our clinical team works with clients to face those feelings and move through them, discovering hope and creating a plan to figure out who they are without substances. This can be a scary process and our therapists recognize this and respond with empathetic and compassionate care to help each client face their fears. During individual therapy sessions, clients can process successes and setbacks, share things they may not be comfortable bringing up in group therapy, and receive feedback from a licensed professional therapist.
Family therapy sessions take place throughout a partial hospitalization program to help create and/or strengthen each client’s immediate support system. Family members and loved ones often struggle to reconcile the sober and healthy version of a client with who they remember them to be as an addict. There’s typically much anger, resentment, and fear to work through and our family therapists get clients to a point where they can engage in healthy family dynamic sessions. This is incredibly important for clients as they make progress and it’s something we strongly encourage. Identifying unhealthy dynamics and relationships and addressing them provides a stronger foundation for everyone to build healthier relationships.
Creating Goals for Your Recovery
Recovery and wellness are ongoing – we are all works in progress to become healthier versions of ourselves. Our PHP treatment team aids each client in setting tangible and realistic goals so that they can identify the steps they’ve taken to improve. Measurable objectives are important in any scenario, and in treatment to be able to see the traction that a client has gained encourages them to continue moving forward on their recovery journey. It also provides a map so that loved ones can understand the work and dedication clients put into recovery.Begin your Recovery Today
