Admissions Question?

If you find yourself among the millions of people who battle with addiction and want to stop, chances are you have questions as to where to start. We’re here to help.

Choosing a rehab program for your loved one can be incredibly difficult. It’s hard to fathom that they need treatment at all, and when you’re considering options there seems to be a never-ending list of rehabs available. It can be overwhelming in an already emotionally turbulent time. We get it – many of us have been in your shoes, seeking help for our loved ones and not knowing quite where to turn.

The face of treatment has changed a lot over the past several years, and many programs tout offerings like ‘holistic care’ and ‘individualized approaches’ without really explaining what that means. Every program functions a little bit differently, which is amazing but can also add to the stress of trying to make the right choice for your loved one. One thing we always recommend to people is to consider what you would want if you were going to a treatment program. At the end of the day, it’s a courageous decision for someone to admit they need help, so we don’t want treatment to be a punitive experience.

An inpatient program will help to set the tone for your loved one in their recovery. A program that’s punitive in nature and uses negative reinforcement will likely only re-traumatize them. On the other hand, a program that is warm, welcoming, and supportive will help to build self-esteem and value and will send the message to your loved one that they’re worth it – worth healing, being well, and that you support them.

What Makes Defining Wellness Different

Defining Wellness Centers offers integrative healing via a trauma-informed approach. This means that we combine a variety of areas, specifically therapy, healthy living, and technology, and utilize them as parts of a whole to aid our clients in their treatment process. We approach clients with the belief that addiction is 100% trauma-based. Chemical dependency typically arises as the result of some sort of trauma, whether physical or emotional, and it creates trauma in one’s life as well. We’re aware of the impact that trauma can have on an individual and their ability to emotionally regulate and make healthy decisions. This often lends to an ongoing cycle of unhealthy patterns and behaviors, exacerbating addiction and mental health diagnoses such as depression and anxiety.

Therapy is a critical piece of our approach, as your loved one needs to process the traumas that led to their use and/or resulted from their use of substances. We utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities to help clients to process trauma. Evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or “talk therapy,” are widely utilized, as are other verbal modalities like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Our clinical team is also trained in experiential treatment modalities and utilizes Art-assisted Therapy, Music-Assisted Therapy, Psychodrama, and equine therapy to aid clients in making progress. Not only does our team work with clients to process and begin healing the underlying trauma, but we also aid clients in developing a plan to move forward post-treatment. What will life look and feel like without substances? How does that even work? Many have been using for so long that they don’t know, and time in an inpatient environment fosters an understanding of that process and provides the time necessary to establish a solid plan for moving forward.

Healthy living is another integral part of our program. Science has shown us that when we’re taking care of ourselves physically, our brains function at a more healthy level. What you nourish yourself with impacts you, and when you’re abusing your system with substances, you’re typically not caring for yourself in a healthy way. Our medical team works with clients to establish a plan to care for themselves physically. We incorporate a healthy diet and exercise into the program, along with balancing out sleeping patterns and helping clients get through the initial post-acute withdrawal phase. The more energy you have physically, the more energy you have emotionally to address the issues that have been plaguing you. When you’re fueling your body with purpose and making sure you’re balancing things in a way that works best for you, you’re creating a better environment in which you can make progress. We will work individually with your loved one to implement a healthier way of caring for oneself.

Technology is another important element of the Defining Wellness program. We utilize technological innovations like the red light charger (red light laser therapy) and neurofeedback to help clients heal themselves in a whole way. The red light charger decreases inflammation in the body, which is especially helpful for individuals as they undergo detoxification. It also promotes cell rejuvenation, helping the body to heal damage more quickly. Additionally, it can regulate circadian rhythms, or sleeping patterns, providing the opportunity to get more sleep in the early days of treatment, leaving individuals refreshed and with the energy to give to their treatment process. Neurofeedback is also an amazing tool, as it helps to retrain the brain to function in a healthy way again. Addiction damages neural pathways and neurofeedback aids in the restoration of what was deteriorating. It takes time for the brain to begin healing post-addiction, and neurofeedback can make that process move a bit more quickly.
