Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab in Mississippi
Inpatient Rehab Program at Defining Wellness
Inpatient residential treatment is a significant part of one’s recovery experience. This is the time when clients begin to face the underlying issues and trauma(s) that have perpetuated their addiction. Working with licensed therapists, clients start the healing process. Through a variety of therapeutic modalities and individual and group therapy sessions, clients build the necessary foundation for long-term sustained recovery.
Why Go to Residential Treatment?
Getting away from negative people, places and things can be a huge contributor to achieving wellness. When someone is stuck in a toxic environment where their addiction has been supported, removing themselves from the situation, even temporarily, breaks the destructive cycle. Inpatient residential treatment provides a positive environment for dual diagnosis clients, championing their wellness journey. When doing the same things day after day, they turn into habits that become routine and ‘normal.’ It can be difficult to switch up any routine, but especially one that includes substance use. Drugs and alcohol hijack an addict’s brain, putting the addiction first. This creates bad and unhealthy habits. Scientific research tells us that it takes on average over two months – 66 days, to be exact – for a new habit to form and solidify. Many people believe that 21 days is the benchmark for this, however, 21 days is the bare minimum amount of time needed for one to adapt to a change. To actually acclimate and implement that change takes a bit longer. Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from two to eight months to build a new behavior into one’s life. This is why continued treatment and support is integral for successful outcomes.
When abusing drugs or alcohol , the brain is under a constant barrage of abuse. Cells are dying, decision-making abilities are impaired and the brain is not functioning at a healthy baseline. When entering inpatient residential treatment, our clients’ brains begin the process of healing. It takes at least 90 days for the brain to begin to recover from the effects of addiction and to get to a point where new, healthy habits can be formulated.
Defining Wellness Centers treatment team understands the stress that clients are under when they admit to our program, and recognizes how traumatized their brains are. We employ a variety of treatment modalities, including biotechnology and therapy, to begin to treat the entire person so that they can recover. Utilizing our Wellness Lab, we work with each client to gauge how their brain is processing information and provide feedback to aid in emotional regulation, allowing healing to happen more quickly.
When someone does the same thing over and over again their situation will stay the same. Entering inpatient treatment changes the narrative of one’s life story, allowing them to make a conscious decision for a better future. Medically, emotionally, therapeutically and spiritually, entering inpatient treatment is in the best interest of dual diagnosis clients wanting to break free from their addictions.
What To Expect in Inpatient Rehab?
Upon arriving at Defining Wellness Centers, all of our clients are medically assessed and complete medical detoxification. As soon as they’re well enough, our clinical team begins therapeutic work with each client. We start with an assessment, learning about each client’s individual history so that we can create a treatment plan. Each client has input into their treatment plan and program, as ultimately long-term successful outcomes are dependent upon our clients’ investment into their recovery.Throughout the course of residential treatment, each individual will work with their primary therapist along with the rest of the clinical treatment team to identify the root causes and issues that have contributed to their addiction. As healing begins, emotions rise to the surface, often including a significant amount of shame, fear, and hope. Our licensed therapists help our dual diagnosis clients navigate the emotions that had been numbed for so long.
As substances leave the body and the brain begins operating in a more healthy way, the clinical treatment team, comprised of our licensed therapists, board-certified medical doctors, and board-certified psychiatrist, work together to determine behavioral health diagnoses, if applicable. We aid our clients in all facets of their recovery and wellness journey. Mental health, physical health, emotional health, and spiritual health are all elements of our treatment planning process.
Clients will participate in individual therapy sessions, group therapy sessions, educational workshops and activities dedicated to their overall wellness. Our dedicated, compassionate treatment team acts as a guide, helping clients to build a solid recovery foundation. Learning about the psychoeducation of addiction, understanding core recovery concepts and principles and integrating them into one’s life, and building healthy relationships with loved ones are all part of the treatment process at Defining Wellness Centers.
It’s important that our clients focus on themselves, but also on strengthening their relationships with healthy support systems. Loved ones are often influential in the recovery process, celebrating milestones and providing love and healthy boundaries. The involvement of family members and loved ones in therapy sessions and educational workshops encourages clients to continue working toward a healthier self.

Build a Firm Foundation in Recovery
Residential treatment is the time to address underlying issues therapeutically, and also to build a solid foundation physically and spiritually. We utilize Yoga, our fitness center, Wellness Lab, outdoor activities, nutritious and enriching diet, and fun peer activities to help each client build their strength. When engaged in active alcohol or drug addiction, people often let basic care lapse. Whether it’s hygiene, going to the dentist, eating well, or just getting outside, we have a variety of activities to get clients back on track. In the initial biopsychosocial assessment, we discuss with each person things they need to focus on and areas the treatment team has identified as concerning and set a plan in place. This plan manifests differently for each individual – for some, it may be spending extra time in the gym and for others, it may be introducing healthier dietary options. Regardless of the need identified, Defining Wellness Centers team implements a schedule of activities that best suit each client’s individual goals.
Reclaiming one’s sense of self is an important part of the wellness journey. Dual diagnosis clients have not walked an easy path and our team is here to support every person we work with to discover who they are and how to love themselves. Residential treatment provides the chance and the time to address the issues, learn to rely on and trust oneself, and live a healthier tomorrow.
